I am a former fashion magazine editor turned world geography teacher, crazy I know!
I grew up in Springfield and attended Springfield Public Schools my whole K-12 life. I graduated from Boston University in 2005 with a B.S. in Sociology and immediately moved to New York City. My life long goal since I was 12 was to become a magazine editor, NEVER did I want to be a teacher, and certainly not one of history! I spent a combined total of 7 years working in the fashion industry between magazine internships, consulting with top stylists, and eventually as an Assistant Fashion Editor of O, The Oprah Magazine. After achieving my goal and working for a few years I was left with a now what? feeling and decided to look into the possibility of becoming a teacher. One of my favorite parts of my job was to mentor my interns and I wanted to translate that to a bigger scale. I took my sociology degree and headed back to Western Mass to become a social studies teacher!
In August of 2009 I moved back to the area and began subbing at Ludlow High School, that didn't last long as I was quickly put in a long-term role. I spent two years at the high school and in 2011 I moved down to Baird Middle School to teach 7th grade geography and have never looked back! I spent six months living in Florence, Italy and traveling around Europe during 2004. I try to bring my personal experiences into the classroom whenever possible. Travel and world cultures has been a long standing passion of mine leading me to include culinary lessons, culture studies, and virtual field trips via UnReported World into my classroom. My passion was also the catalyst for the start of the BMS Travel Club in 2013 to bring the students of Ludlow the travel opportunities I had in my middle and high school days.
